About this produce

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), known as Fever Grass across West and Central Africa, is a fragrant tropical grass with a clean, citrus-lemon aroma. It is not a vegetable but a culinary and medicinal herb used in teas, soups, and natural remedies. Fresh stalks have bright green tops and pale, fibrous bases that release their oils when bruised or boiled.

Common uses

Boil fresh stalks in water to make a soothing lemongrass tea — add ginger and honey for extra warmth. Use in pepper soup broth, chicken stew, or herbal lemonade drinks. Dried and bundled stalks can also be stored for year-round use. A natural air freshener when simmered on the stove.

Cultural importance

Called "tangawisi" in some regions, fever grass has been used for generations across Africa and the Caribbean as a home remedy for fever, headaches, digestive issues, and stress relief. It is commonly brewed as the first response to cold symptoms in Cameroonian and Nigerian households — a trusted plant that every African kitchen keeps on hand.

Seasonal availability

Lemongrass is a perennial plant that produces through most of the warm season. Fresh bundles are available from late spring through early fall. The farm also provides dried bundles when fresh supply is limited. Contact us for current stock.
