About this produce
Njama-Njama, also called huckleberry or African nightshade, is a dark leafy green native to Cameroon and Central Africa. The leaves are slightly bitter when raw but develop a rich, earthy depth when cooked. They are packed with iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C — making them one of the most nutritious greens grown on the farm.
Common uses
Blanch the leaves briefly, then sauté with palm oil, onions, tomatoes, crayfish, and seasoning. Serve alongside corn fufu (achu), pounded yam, plantains, or rice. Njama-Njama also pairs beautifully with smoked fish or grilled chicken for a complete traditional meal.
Cultural importance
In the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon, no traditional gathering or celebration is complete without a pot of Njama-Njama. It is a defining dish of Cameroonian home cooking — a taste of home for the diaspora community across Minnesota and beyond.
Seasonal availability
Njama-Njama is typically available from late June through September, depending on the growing season. Quantities are limited. Contact the farm early in the season to plan your order.
